The Global Health Corps (GHC) Fellowship Program in Sub-Saharan Africa recruits talented young leaders with a wide range of skill sets and backgrounds to join and contribute to the movement for health equity. GHC offers young professionals a range of paid, high-impact fellowship roles with health organizations in Malawi, Rwanda, Uganda, and Zambia, and the opportunity to develop as a transformative leader.

GHC recruits and selects highly qualified applicants with diverse skill sets to be placed in high-impact organizations for a 13-month fellowship. During their fellowship year, fellows make significant contributions to their placement organizations and the communities they serve.

Through a highly selective process, GHC recruits and places young professionals from 13 countries across Sub-Saharan Africa to serve for 13 months in high-impact roles on the front lines of global health. Currently, GHC places fellows in Malawi, Rwanda, Uganda, and Zambia. Each year, we’re inspired and amazed by the passion of thousands of applicants, of whom we can accept just 2-3%.

By the start of the fellowship, fellows must:

  • Be 30 years of age or younger.
  • Hold a bachelor’s or undergraduate university degree.
  • Be proficient in English.
  • Be a citizen or legal permanent resident of Burundi, Ethiopia, Ghana, Kenya, Liberia Malawi, Nigeria, Rwanda, South Africa, Tanzania, Uganda, Zambia, or Zimbabwe.

  • Monthly living stipend

GHC arranges several logistical details on fellows’ behalf with the expectation that fellows will take ownership of their overall experience.

The Fellowship Program is a catalyst for rising leaders that provides access to:

Frontline Work Experience

GHC places fellows within high-impact health organizations and Ministries of Health in Malawi, Rwanda, Uganda, and Zambia to fill critical roles, from supply chain and data analysis to program implementation and policy and advocacy. Working in co-fellow pairs, fellows learn and contribute in these roles.

BESPOKE LEADERSHIP TRAINING

Fellows build community, sharpen their leadership skills, and amplify their impact by participating in GHC trainings.  Fellows receive executive coaching and training to work through personal and professional challenges and deepen self-awareness and resiliency.

RESOURCES TO LEARN & AMPLIFY IMPACT

With funding from GHC, fellows pool their skills and networks to implement a health project in their communities. They also pursue an individual stretch project and tap into a professional development fund for greater impact.

INTEGRATING INTO GHC’S COLLECTIVE LEADERSHIP COMMUNITY

Fellows are mentored by two alumni throughout their fellowship and for the first six months of their post-fellowship careers. They access community wisdom and resources via GHC’s digital community portal. Equipped with more confidence, sharper skills, and a stronger network, fellows transition to our alumni community at the close of their fellowship year.
