With the collaboration of the UK Department for International Development, the City University of London is administrating the Commonwealth Shared Scholarships for the academic year 2020-21.

The program is open for applicants from Commonwealth countries who wish to undertake a postgraduate degree program at the university in the UK.

  • Eligible Countries: Applicants from Bangladesh, Cameroon, Eswatini, The Gambia, Ghana, India, Kenya, Kiribati, Lesotho, Malawi, Mozambique, Nigeria, Pakistan, Papua New Guinea, Rwanda, Samoa, Sierra Leone, Solomon Islands, Sri Lanka, Tanzania, Tuvalu, Uganda, Vanuatu, Zambia.

  • Eligibility Criteria: To apply for these endowments, you must:
  • Be available to start your academic studies in the UK by the start of the UK academic year in September/October 2020
  • Not have studied or worked for one (academic) year or more in a high-income country
  • Be unable to afford to study in the UK without this application
  • Be a citizen of or have been granted refugee status by an eligible Commonwealth country, or be a British Protected Person
  • Be permanently resident in an eligible Commonwealth country

How to Apply: For applying, you have to take admission to the master’s degree coursework at the university. After taking affirmation, you can access the online application form.

  • Supporting Documents: The university may ask you for the following documents such as:
  • Postgraduate Loan entitlement letter and/or Professional and Career Development Loan agreement;
  • Studentship/Scholarship letter;
  • Three months bank statements for all your bank accounts
  • Rent/tenancy contract or mortgage statement;
  • Council tax bill (if applicable)
  • Priority bills (if applicable)
  • Partner/spouse income for three months (if applicable)
  • Recent Housing Benefit Letter (if applicable)
  • Council Tax Benefit Letter (if applicable)
  • Child Tax Credit and Working Tax Credits Letter (if applicable)
  • Childcare receipts (students with children only)
  • If your term-time address is outside London, please give evidence of the costs involved in travelling to City
  • Admission Requirements: Aspirants must hold the first degree of at least upper second class (2:1) standard, or a second class degree and a relevant postgraduate qualification (usually a Master’s degree).
  • Language Requirement: Students have to fulfil the English language requirements of the university
