German and international students from any discipline and higher  education institutions are invited to apply for the DAAD Heinrich Boll Scholarship which is closely associated with the German Green Party.

The Heinrich Böll Foundation grants scholarships to approximately 1500 undergraduates, graduates, and doctoral students of all subjects and nationalities per year, who are pursuing their degree at universities, universities of applied sciences, or universities of the arts.

The Heinrich Boll Scholarship scholarship recipients are expected to have excellent academic records, to be socially and politically engaged, and to have an active interest in the basic values of the foundation: ecology and sustainability, democracy and human rights, self-determination, and justice.

Requirements

Applicants must:

  • Admission to a degree course at a state or state-recognised institution of higher education in Germany
  • Proof of the required level of German language (B2 or DSH 2)
  • Excellent school grades and academic standing; if requested, first graded proofs of academic achievements
  • Social engagement and interest in politics
  • Convincing justification for applying to the Foundation
  • The scholarship department of the Heinrich Böll Foundation grants scholarships to graduates and doctoral students from outside Germany. An application for a scholarship for an undergraduate degree is only available for German nationals.
  • The application deadline is March 1st andSeptember 1st. Please note: We only accept online applications. The application portal will be opened about 6 weeks before the application deadline.
  • International applicants have to prove their proficiency in German. Good or very good knowledge of the German language is required (at least B2 Level or DSH2).

  • Your motivation for are applying to the Heinrich Böll Foundation
  • An outline of your motivation for studying your chosen subject and of your main areas of interest
  • An outline of your social commitments and political interests et al.
  • A copy of your Abitur, baccalaureate or university entrance qualification
  • If required, a German or English translation by a certified translator
  • Certified copy of the degree certificate, with German or English translation if required, along with an explanation of the grading if it differs from the German system
  • Student enrollment certificate must be submitted with
    application or submitted at the latest by the time of the selection interview
  • For international applicants: Written proof of German language proficiency
  • Reference letters (one from a third party on your social committment, another from your college/university lecturer).
  • Refugees are requested to enclose a document providing information on their residence permit (asylum
    status).
