The Humboldt University of Berlin is one of Berlin’s oldest universities, founded on 15 October 1811 at the University of Berlin (Berliner Universität) by Frederick William III of Prussia, on the initiative of the liberal Prussian educational reformer and linguist Wilhelm von Humboldt.
The Humboldt University of Berlin is now accepting applications for Humboldt Research Track Scholarship which helps recipients to focus on the preparation of their PhD proposal. Up to 24 scholarships will be provided each year to international students.
The Humboldt Research Track Scholarship funding line is aimed at outstanding students and graduates who have either just completed or who are about to complete their degree program.
Degree Level: Scholarships are available to pursue PhD programme.
Available Subject: Scholarships are awarded to learn any of the courses offered by the university.
Scholarship Benefits: Funding of 800 EUR per month is awarded for up to six months. Scholarship holders with children receive an additional 400 EUR a month for the first child, plus 100 EUR for each additional child. In exceptional cases, funding can be extended for up to an additional six months.
Number of Scholarships: Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin awards up to 24 Humboldt Research Track Scholarships each year. Half of these shall be awarded to women. Four scholarships shall be awarded to candidates with disabilities or chronic illnesses.
Eligibility Criteria:
The following criteria must be met in order for applicants to be eligible for the scholarship:
Outstanding Master’s students as well as graduates who plan to pursue their PhD at Humboldt-Universität or – if you graduated from Humboldt-Universität – at another university in Germany or abroad. To enable more prospective doctoral candidates with disabilities or chronic illnesses to prepare for a doctorate, applications from this target group will be given particular consideration.
Method of Application:
The application process for Research Track Scholarships takes place via an online application portal. Applications will only be accepted via this portal, and the portal is only accessible during the application period.
Applications can be submitted via the online application portal only. Applications must include the following documents:
- Completed online application form,
- Curriculum vitae (max. 2 pages),
- Sketch of your research proposal (max. 2.250 characters),
- Certificates of your academic degrees, including certified translations and/or, if applicable, transcripts (of grades) for courses attended,
- Letter of recommendation from your Master thesis supervisor or from one of the instructors from your Master’s program,
- Expert review of your PhD proposal by the mentor at Humboldt-Universität you wish to work with during the funding period.
Scholarship Application Deadline:ÂÂ
The Humboldt Research Track Scholarships are awarded four times a year by the Selection Committee of the Institutional Strategy Funding Lines for Promoting Young Researchers. Application periods are
April 1 to May 15 for funding starting 1 August
June 1 to July 15 for funding starting 1 October
September 1 to October 15 for funding starting 1 February
December 1 to January 15 for funding starting 1 April.
