The AESOP ( A European and South African Partnership on Heritage and ) + multidisciplinary and  Erasmus Mundus consortium coordinated by the University Paul Sabatier-Toulouse 3 (France) and the University of the Western Cape (South Africa ) are organizing AESOP Scholarship for South African and European Students. These scholarships are available to pursue master, doctorate, Post doctorate programme.

The aim of the scholarships is to strengthen ties between South African and European applicants.

The AESOP Consortium will manage the partnership and will organize 150 mobilities (109 South African applicants and 41 European applicants in Master, Doctorate and Staff).

Course Level: Scholarships are available to pursue master, doctoral and Postdoctoral programme.

Study Subject: Scholarships are awarded in the following fields:

  • Engineering, Technology,
  • Architecture
  • Agriculture
  • Geography, Geology
  • Humanities
  • Mathematics, computer sciences
  • Natural Sciences
  • Social Sciences
  • Humanities

Scholarship Award: The scholarship covers the following aspects:

  • Monthly subsistence allowance
  • Travel ticket
  • Insurance
  • Participation cost

More specifically:

Subsistence allowance:

  • 1000 € per month for Master students
  • 1500 € per month for doctorate students
  • 1800 € per month for Post-doc students
  • 2500 € per month for academic staff
  • Insurance costs:
    All grant holders are insured by a central Group Insurance
  • Participation costs:
    The tuition fees are covered by the project.
  • Travel costs:
    One return ticket. The amount allowed depends on the distance from the Home and the Host University.

 Numbers of Scholarships: Total ninety-five scholarships are available. 62 South African applicants and 33 European applicant.

Eligibility Criteria: 

Applicants must meet the following eligibility requirements:

South African students

  • Must be a national of South Africa
  • Must not have resided nor have carried out their main activity (studies, work, etc.) for more than a total of 12 months over the last five years in any of the eligible European countries at the time of submitting their application to the partnership.
  • Must have sufficient knowledge of the language of the courses or of one of the languages currently spoken in the hosting countries.

European students

  • Must be a national of one of the eligible European countries;
  • Must have sufficient knowledge of the language of the courses or of one of the languages currently spoken in the hosting countries.
  • Must be registered/enrolled in one of the partner universities in the project at the moment of application (October 2014 ? January 2015)

Nationality: South African and European applicants are eligible for these scholarships.

College Admission Requirement

Entrance Requirement:  Applicants must have previous year degree

English Language Requirement:  Applicants must have sufficient knowledge of the language of the courses or of one of the languages currently spoken in the hosting countries

Method of Application: 

The mode of applying is online.

  • A copy of your passport or other official national identification proof;
  • A Curriculum Vitae (Europass format)
  • A covering letter
  • A transcript of records translated into English (which should be obtained from the student administration of your university);
  • An internationally recognized language certificate: TOEFL, IELTS etc. If applicable.
  • A copy of any language certificate you may have obtained to support your language skills;
  • A signed recommendation letter
  • A study plan (template). The study plan should list the courses you would like to take at the host university during your mobility period. This document should not be signed by the host university.
