International students from all over the world can now apply for the University of Tasmania Graduate Research Scholarship to study in one of Australia’s best universities.

The Australian Government Research Training Program (RTP) scholarships and the Tasmania Graduate Research Scholarship (TGRS) are awarded throughout the year to high quality international and domestic candidates.

Requirements

To be eligible for a University of Tasmania Graduate Research Scholarships;

  • Successful applicants must have completed at least four years of tertiary education studies and have achieved at least an upper second-class Honours degree or equivalent.
  • Awards are only available to those who will be undertaking a full-time research Master’s or Doctoral degree in 2026.
  • Candidates must not be receiving another equivalent award, scholarship or salary to undertake the proposed program (if that income is greater than seventy-five per cent of the base Research Training Program stipend rate).

Benefits

  • The duration of the Award is three years and six months for a Doctoral candidate and two years for a Masters candidate. 
  • Applicants will be considered for a Research Training Program (RTP) scholarship or Tasmania Graduate Research Scholarship (TGRS) which, if successful, provides:
    • a living allowance stipend of $34,315 per annum (2026 rate, indexed annually) for 3.5 years
    • a relocation allowance of up to $2,000
    • a tuition fees offset covering the cost of tuition fees for up to four years (domestic applicants only)
    If successful, international applicants will receive a University of Tasmania Fees Offset for up to four years.

Required Documents

To apply for the Tasmania Graduate Research Scholarship, you will be required to submit the following documents;

  • A copy of your passport
  • A signed copy of the Supervisory support form
  • A Research Proposal 
  • Evidence of your qualifications
  • Certified copies of transcripts/academic records and testamur/degree certificates for ALL previous university studies, complete and incomplete.
  • A copy of your research thesis (from your Honours or Masters degree)
  • A Curriculum Vitae (CV), this must include the contact details of two referees
  • Evidence of English language proficiency

  • Ensure you allow plenty of time to submit an application ahead of the closing date and check you meet all project specific criteria
  • You will be prompted to upload documents as you complete the application form.
  • Applicants should complete an application in conjunction with their supervisory team. Please indicate on the application if you wish to be considered for a scholarship.
