The Minister of Defence is the senior minister at the Ministry of Defence (Kaitseministeerium) in the Estonian Government.

The Ministry of Defence is offering scholarship competition for defence related master’s theses, in the framework of which eight EUR 4250 scholarships will be awarded.

The broader objective of the scholarship competition is, on the one hand, to raise the level of scientific research involving national defence, and secondly to more broadly popularise the field of defence, involving master’s students from private institutions of higher learning and fields of study.

Course Level: Scholarships are available for defence related master’s theses.

Study Subject: Participants in the scholarship competition may choose from 11 topics, which have been selected by the Ministry of Defence, the Defence Forces, the Defence Resources Board, the Estonian National Defence College and the Estonian War Museum. The designated topics cover, among other things, sociology, technology, personnel policies and military history.

Scholarship Award: Each scholarship worth € 4250

Number of Scholarships: Eight scholarship recipients will be selected from the candidates for all topics.

Scholarship can be taken in Estonia

Eligibility Criteria:

All non-Estonian public universities (except KVÜÕA) and institutions of professional higher education or graduate students from Estonian universities are expected to attend the competition.

Nationality: Students from Estonia can apply for these scholarships.

Entrance Requirement: Applicants must have previous degree.

Method of Application:

To apply for a scholarship, a master’s thesis plan, along with other required documentation, must be submitted to the Ministry of Defence, at the address stipendiumid-at-kaitseministeerium.ee. University expects the following documents from the Master’s Degree:

  • Free-form request
  • Master’s thesis (on a predefined form)
  • Academic statement
  • Certificate of matriculation
  • CV (on pre-determined form)
  • ID-card copy
