The International Cooperation Group of Brazilian Universities (GCUB) continues its traditional program of scholarships, accompanied by monthly stipends, within the scope of its International Mobility Program (GCUB-Mob), aimed at international students from the five continents interested in pursuing Master’s or Doctorate degrees at associated Brazilian Higher Education Institutions (HEIs).

Benefits

  • Master’s Degree: Monthly stipends, with the amount paid by Brazilian federal agencies for research and graduate funding to Brazilian students pursuing a Master’s degree in Brazil as a minimum reference. The payment is the responsibility of the host HEI throughout the regular study period, up to a maximum of 24 (twenty-four) months, in accordance with the Table of Master’s and Doctorate Programs of Brazilian HEIs.
  • Doctorate: Monthly stipends, with amounts paid by Brazilian federal agencies for research and graduate funding to Brazilian students pursuing a Doctorate in Brazil as a minimum reference. The payment is the responsibility of the host HEI throughout the regular study period, up to a maximum of 48 (forty-eight) months, in accordance with the provisions of the Table of Master’s and Doctorate Programs of Brazilian HEIs.

Requirements

  • Applicants must submit their application in Portuguese, English, Spanish, or French.
  • Applicants must be citizens of a State that maintains diplomatic relations with Brazil.
  • Applicants must not hold Brazilian nationality.
  • Applicants must declare good physical and mental health to undertake graduate studies.
  • To have financial capacity to cover extra expenses before receiving the scholarship, i.e., airfare, visa issuance, international health insurance for the entire study period, and other living expenses.
  • To indicate the course level in the application.
  • To submit an undergraduate diploma, regardless of the course level chosen in the application.
  • For Doctorate candidates, it is the candidate’s responsibility to verify whether the Graduate Program chosen requires a Master’s degree (please check the Table of Master’s and Doctorate Programs of Brazilian HEIs). Failure to meet this requirement will result in the candidate’s disqualification.

Selection Process

The evaluation process for applications to the GCUB-Mob will take place in three phases, all eliminatory. Applicants may be eliminated at any stage if they do not fully meet the requirements established for each phase.

  1. The first phase — Analysis of Document Consistency — will be carried out by a Committee appointed by the GCUB Executive Board, under the responsibility of one or more HEIs associated with GCUB.
  2. The second phase — Analysis of Merit and Eligibility — is the responsibility of the host HEIs.
  3. The third phase — Final Classification — will be carried out by an Advisory Evaluation Committee, composed of PhDs and professors from HEIs associated with GCUB, appointed by the GCUB Executive Board.

Application Documents

  1. Copy of an identity document (nationality document, passport, or national identity document);
  2. Curriculum Vitae (CV) — it is not necessary to submit supporting documents at the time of application. However, supporting documents may be requested at any time by GCUB or the host HEI;
  3. A diploma from a bachelor’s degree program (or undergraduate degree), a certificate of completion, or an official document issued by the originating Higher Education Institution proving the student’s completion status, indicating the expected date of course completion;
  4. For Doctorate candidates: In addition to the documents required in items (a), (b), and (c), a diploma or certificate of completion of a Master’s degree, if required by the chosen Doctorate program (please check the Table of Master’s and Doctorate Programs of Brazilian HEIs).
  5. For each of the courses chosen, regardless of the level (Master’s or Doctorate), the candidate must submit two texts:
    Specifications: Times New Roman, size 12, 1.5 line spacing; and 2.5 cm top, bottom, right, and left margins;

    Content of the texts:
    Text 1: Academic expectations and interests; professional perspectives for returning to the country of origin (maximum 1,000 words).

    Text 2: Research proposal containing a maximum of 4,000 words, covering the following topics

    Central Research Theme and Problem
    Delimitation and Justification
    Objectives
    Literature Review
    Methodological Process
    Research Schedule
    Bibliographic References
     
  6. For professors: proof of affiliation with a Higher Education Institution.

Note 1: No requests for reconsideration of the results will be accepted at any stage of the selection process.

Note 2: Neither GCUB nor the HEIs will issue any documents to applicants during the selection process.
