The OIST Scholarship Program is a fully funded opportunity hosted by the Okinawa Institute of Science & Technology in Japan.
The OIST PhD Program covers all costs of study, living, and research expenses for selected international candidates to study and conduct research with some of the world’s best facilities.
Eligibility Requirements
To be considered for the OIST PhD Program, you must:
- be enrolled in their last two years of a bachelor’s degree, enrolled in any year of a master’s degree, or have graduated with a bachelor’s or master’s degree.
- Submit an application at any time before each application deadline.
- Meet the English Language proficiency requirements of OIST.

- OIST is a Special Private School Corporation, funded mostly by the Japanese government.
- The OIST Scholarship Program provides financial support that covers tuition and living expenses, allowing students to focus on completing their degrees and contributing to the research output of the university.
