Applications for the 2026 UNESCO Great Wall China Scholarship have now opened for interested and qualified international candidates.

The UNESCO Great Wall China Fellowship covers tuition fees for the entire program, the costs of accommodation, health insurance, travel, and visa, as well as a living stipend of Â¥42,000.

Eligibility Requirements

One-year Visiting Scholar Programmes

– Candidates applying for General Scholar Programmes must hold a high school diploma and should not be older than the age of forty-five (45); whereas those who apply for Senior Scholar Programmes must hold a master’s degree or an associate professor position (or above) and not be older than the age of fifty (50).

– English proficiency is required. For a candidate applying for a Chinese-taught programme as General or Senior visiting scholar, her/is Chinese proficiency must reach HSK Level 3.

Degree Programmes

– Candidates applying for Master’s Degree Programmes must hold a bachelor’s degree and should not be older than the age of thirty-five (35); whereas those who apply for Doctoral Degree Programmes must hold a master’s degree and should not be older than the age of forty (40).

– English proficiency is required. For a candidate applying for a Chinese-taught degree programme, her/is Chinese proficiency must reach HSK Level 4.

  • Meeting the admission requirements of the applied universities in terms of academic ability, language proficiency and other relevant criteria.
  • Be in good health, both mentally and physically.

Method of Application

  1. Review Guidelines: Read the Application Guidelines thoroughly to understand requirements and processes.
  2. Contact National Commission: Reach out to the National Commission for UNESCO in your country for application procedures. Find your local National Commission here https://www.unesco.org/nationalcommissions.
  3. Prepare Documents: Compile required documents, including:
    • Admission notice or pre-admission letter from a Chinese university (optional but prioritized).
    • Completed application forms.
    • Language proficiency certificates (if applicable).
    • Physical Examination Form.
  4. Submit Online Application:
      • Register and apply through the Chinese Government Scholarship Information System: https://www.campuschina.org/ and upload all necessary documents.
    Open exchange programs
  5. Submit to National Commission: Submit your online application (https://www.unesco.org/en/fellowships/greatwall) and supporting documents to your country’s National Commission for UNESCO.
  6. Final Submission: If nominated by your National Commission, email your application to thegreatwall@unesco.org.
