The Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program at the American University of Beirut has opened a special application window for PhD scholarship opportunities for African nationals for the spring 2026 admission.
The Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program prepares talented and diverse young people with a commitment to giving back with the skills and mindsets they need to pursue their aspirations and enrich their communities. The Scholars Program is more than just a scholarship. It offers mentoring, leadership skills development, tutoring, internship opportunities, and career services?in addition to covering tuition and basic living expenses.

Requirements
PhDÂ scholarships are open to:
- Citizens of countries on the African Continent
- Refugees living in any the African Continent
Selection Process
- Good academic standing in the previous degree
- Talent that exceeds financial resources
- Commitment to giving back to the community, country, and region
- Leadership skills
- Commitment to attend all the additional learning experiences and workshops required by the Scholars Program
- 35 years or younger
- Demonstration of Readiness for University Studies in English (RUSE).

Interested applicants should:
Step 1: Complete an AUB online graduate application and upload supporting documents by the deadline.
Step 2: Select Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program under the Financial Opportunities section of the online graduate application.
IMPORTANT NOTE: For an application to be considered complete, applicants must have completed (1) the AUB online graduate application and (2) the AUB Financial Aid Application.
