This Scholarship has been established to provide financial assistance to a PhD student who is undertaking research in the field of bioethics or health law related to the Interconnect Health Research project’s focus.
This Scholarship is funded by Department of Health and Aged Care (Federal – administered by NHMRC).
A unique opportunity is available for an outstanding PhD scholar to conduct research in the fields of bioethics or health law as part of a project named ‘Interconnect Health Research’.
A multi-institutional research team led by University of Sydney has been awarded federal government funding to help create a safer and better future for people with innate variations in sex characteristics (IVSC, also known as intersex variations /differences of sex development). The project will be conducted by a national consortium of researchers, community groups, and clinicians led by researchers with lived experience of IVSC. Read more here.
Benefits
The Scholarship will provide a stipend allowance of $30,000 per annum for up to 3.5 years, subject to satisfactory academic performance.
Requirements
You must:
- Be willing to apply for admission, have an offer of admission or being currently enrolled to study full-time in a PhD within the Faculty of Medicine and Health at the University of Sydney
- Conduct research in the field of bioethics or health law related to improving the physical and mental health of people born with innate variations of sex characteristics.
Selection Process
The successful applicant will be awarded the Scholarship on the basis of:
- Academic merit,
- Cover letter detailing interest in subject area,
- Indicative outline of research proposal, and
- Contact details of two academic referees.
Shortlisted applicants will be required to attend an interview.
The successful applicant will be awarded the Scholarship on the nomination of a selection committee consisting of the relevant research supervisor(s), FMH Academic Leader (Research Education), or their nominated delegate(s).
