The annual World Press Photo Contest recognizes and celebrates the best photojournalism and documentary photography produced over the last year, selected by an international independent jury. Entering is free and prizes include up to €6,000, inclusion in our annual traveling exhibition, and more.
To facilitate a fair entry and judging process, it is important that every entrant reads the entry rules and agrees to them. Read here.
Benefits
Entering the World Press Photo Contest is free and open to all professional photographers working in the field of photojournalism and/or documentary photography.
As a winner, your work will be:
- Included in our annual traveling exhibition seen by over 4 million visitors, shown around the world in over 80 cities
- Published on our website and social platforms with over 2 million followers
- Included in our yearbook
You will also receive:
- €1,000 for each of the 24 regional winners and an additional €5,000 for the four global winners
- An invitation to the Winners’ Program in Amsterdam
- A physical award
- For the four global winners: a FUJIFILM GFX100 II camera, with two lenses of choice, two Li-ion batteries, and dual battery charger
Without restricting the jury in their deliberations, we ask the jury to consider the following criteria during judging:
- Visual quality: this can include creativity, technical skill and visual style, and the edit of the story (where relevant)
- Story: this refers to the story and/or issues covered in the photographs, its relevance or significance, and the way in which the photographer has chosen to approach the story
- Representation: this refers to the importance of awarding a diverse range of stories and photographers
The organization recognizes that the jury comprises a diverse group of industry experts who each bring relevant knowledge of their regions and insight into different aspects of photojournalism and documentary photography. Therefore whilst the organization sets these criteria, it also gives the jury the freedom to determine and define what makes an entry worthy of an award.
