2021 Visual & Storytelling Competition to End Female Genital Mutilation (USD 5,000 Prize)

Visual and Storytelling Competition on the Nexus of FGM and GBV.

Are you a Creative Artist aged 18 – 35 of African origin and living in Africa? If yes, here is an opportunity to use your art to contribute to the elimination of Female Genital Mutilation.

YouthHubAfrica in partnership with the African Youth Commission with support from the UNFPA-UNICEF Joint Programme on the Elimination of Female Genital Mutilation is launching a call for entries for a visual and storytelling competition on the nexus of Female Genital Mutilation (FGM) and Gender Based Violence (GBV).

Female Genital Mutilation is a human rights violation, a form of Gender Based Violence and a public health challenge. It is mostly carried out on girls between infancy and age 15, though women are also subjected to the practice. Often undertaken as a cultural/traditional right of passage, FGM has no health benefits and deprives girls and women the right to control their sexuality.

This competition is an activity on the Strengthening Youth Advocacies to End Female Genital Mutilation in Africa project and it targets young creatives, bloggers, artistes and storytellers on the continent to use their existing platforms and expressions to advocate for the elimination of FGM in Africa.
