The expectation is that holders of these prestigious Fellowships will have identified a substantial and significant research challenge, and that this will lead to significant research funding and highly cited publications in subsequent years. In the Academic Impact Statement (see below) the applicant should detail how their research will be viewed by a broader community as having the necessary degree of novelty, importance and usefulness. Successful candidates will undertake a limited amount of teaching (up to 6 hours per week).
Number of Scholarships: The University anticipate up to 12 of these prestigious Fellowships to be offered annually.
Eligible Nationalities: There are no nationality restrictions. Fellowships are available for applicants of all nationalities.
Eligibility Criteria: Applicants must meet the following criteria:
The Fellowship is for Early Career Researchers (ECR). Applicants are expected to hold a PhD by the start date of the Fellowship or have equivalent research experience. There are no eligibility rules based on years of postdoctoral experience or whether the applicant holds a permanent academic position. The ethos of the Early Career Researcher scheme is to support candidates who have a track record of outstanding research and in delivering impact. Consideration will be given to applicants who have taken a non-standard career path after their primary degree and circumstances such as maternity, paternity, long term illness, caring responsibilities or career breaks. Applications are also welcome from candidates who wish to re-establish themselves after a career break or other period of absence from active research. There are no nationality restrictions.
Method of Application: In the first instance, the potential applicant must contact the Head of School of the host School to discuss the background and strategy for any application.
