The University of Pretoria is offering up to 25 full Master’s degree Scholarships (LLM/MPhil) in Human Rights and Democratisation in Africa. Scholarships are available to African citizens.

Course Level: Scholarships are available to pursue Master degree programme.

Algeria, Angola, Benin, Botswana, Burkina Faso, Burundi, Cameroon, Cape Verde, Central African Republic, Chad, Comoros, Ivory Coast, Djibouti, Egypt, Equatorial Guinea, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Gabon, Gambia, Ghana, Guinea, Guinea-Bissau, Kenya, Lesotho, Liberia, Libya, Madagascar, Malawi, Mali, Mauritania, Mauritius, Morocco, Mozambique, Namibia, Niger, Nigeria, Republic of the Congo, Rwanda, Sao Tome and Principe, Senegal, Seychelles, Sierra Leone, Somalia, South Africa, Sudan, Swaziland, Tanzania, Togo, Tunisia, Uganda, Western Sahara, Zambia and  Zimbabwe.

Eligibility Criteria: To be eligible for this scholarship you must meet the following requirements:

The LLM/MPhil in Human Rights and Democratisation in Africa is a unique programme to which 25 to 30 applicants from African countries with the following degrees and preferably experience in the field of human rights are admitted:

  • Law students
    A degree allowing access to the legal profession (eg LLB or licence en droit)
  • Other students
    At least an Honours degree in a discipline relevant to human rights and democratisation

During an intensive one-year course, they are taught by eminent lecturers in the field of human rights and gain invaluable practical exposure. It is the only course of its kind in Africa.

Applicants must have excellent academic credentials and demonstrate human rights experience or interest. Women, as well as members of minority groups such as indigenous people, LGBTI persons and persons with disabilities, are particularly encouraged to apply.
