The Paul Mellon Centre for Studies in British Art is an educational charity committed to promoting original, world-class research into the history of British art and architecture of all periods. We collaborate closely with the Yale Center for British Art and are part of Yale University.
The Paul Mellon Centre for Studies in British Art is delighted to offer Postdoctoral Fellowships annually for the purpose of transforming doctoral research in the field of British art and architectural history into publishable form.
Postdoctoral Fellowships are designated for applicants who have had their doctoral theses successfully examined within the four years prior to January 2017.
Course Level: Fellowships are available to pursue Postdoctoral programme.
Available Subject: The programme supports scholarship, academic research and the dissemination of knowledge in the field of British art and architectural history from the medieval period to the present, although all supported topics must have a historical perspective.
Scholarship Benefits: Five Postdoctoral Fellowships of £8,000 each will be awarded.
Fellowship funds are offered either as a grant to the Fellow (if an independent scholar) or to their university or institution to fund replacement teaching or staff costs. The Centre does not pay full economic costs. If a Fellow accepts full-time employment during the period of the Postdoctoral Fellowship, the Centre will request an appropriate reimbursement of the award.
Number of Scholarships: Five six-month full-time Postdoctoral Fellowships will be awarded.
Eligibility Criteria: The following criteria must be met in order for applicants to be eligible for the scholarship:
Postdoctoral Fellowships are designated for applicants who have had their doctoral theses successfully examined within the four years prior to January 2017. Applications will also be accepted from applicants who are able to demonstrate that the final examination will be completed by the end of January 2017. The Paul Mellon Centre reserves the right to withdraw a Postdoctoral Fellowship from a candidate to whom one has been offered on the latter basis, should the examination result in a substantive referral or in failure.
Please note it is not permitted to submit a Research Support Grant application at the same time as a Postdoctoral Fellowship application.
